Sword Catcher

by Cassandra Clare

This was my first book written by Cassandra Clare. I know now that her series Mortal Instruments and Shadowhunters are popular, but when I picked this book up I only knew that her name was vaguely familiar. But OH MY GOSH I cannot tell you how much I loved this story. I felt like every character could be the main character of their own novels. I am left with so many questions but in a good way. I need more immediately, but the next book in the series isn't out yet. I know I tend to be overly positive in my reviews but WOW. The imagery, the world building, the conflicts, the politics, the friendships, the tension: Chef's kiss. I love a good romantasy as much as the next person, but this story felt more grounded and believable than most I've read (which TBH isn't a lot but shut up THAT'S MY OPINION). Because it wasn't fixated on the romance!! Like listen, there can be a plot!! This is the bar!! I devoured this book. I will probably read it again before the next comes out. Holy cow.
